MORGANS CAPITAL MANAGEMENT

Recognize value. Think beyond the immediate.

Independent judgment, fundamental analysis and a considered approach to risk shape our perspective.

01 / MCM

Businesses before headlines.

Short-term news can shift expectations. A durable assessment begins with how a business creates value through its products, customer relationships, cost structure and use of capital.

We distinguish observable facts from assumptions. A clear research question is more useful than searching for one metric to explain every decision.

02 / MCM

Price is visible. Value requires analysis.

Valuation connects current market expectations with possible future outcomes. We consider earnings quality, capital requirements and sensitivity to changing conditions.

A long-term orientation does not mean holding a thesis unchanged. It means distinguishing short-term movement from fundamental change.

03 / MCM

Discipline in judgment.

Uncertainty cannot be eliminated, but it can be described through alternative scenarios, transparent assumptions and careful attention to counterarguments.

Our objective is a professional, rigorous research framework that can continue to evolve.

In depth

Challenge the starting thesis

A plausible explanation is not yet a robust investment thesis. The important question is whether it stands up to alternative explanations. Revenue growth may reflect higher prices, stronger volumes, an acquisition or currency movements. Each cause has different implications for future development. Careful analysis therefore identifies both the preferred explanation and the observations that would weaken it, rather than treating an initial interpretation as an established conclusion.

  • Which explanation fits the material evidence?
  • Which counterarguments remain unresolved?
  • What new information would change the assessment?

02

Separate the time horizons

Business models, economic cycles and share prices do not move on the same timetable. A short-term order effect may reveal little about lasting competitiveness. Conversely, an initially modest technological change may become economically important over several years. A long-term perspective therefore requires explicit time horizons: what affects the next reporting period, what matters through the business cycle and what changes the enduring ability to create value?

  • Near term: explain operating deviations.
  • Medium term: assess the cycle and investment.
  • Long term: examine competition and capital productivity.

03

Give uncertainty a structure

Not every unanswered question can be resolved by adding decimal places. Historical evidence may help narrow some assumptions; others depend on future decisions or developments. It is useful to distinguish well-observed variables, reasoned estimates and factors subject to substantial uncertainty. This reveals which parts of a thesis carry the greatest weight and where a wider range of outcomes is appropriate, rather than disguising uncertainty inside a precise-looking figure.

  • Distinguish data quality from economic uncertainty.
  • Connect ranges with plausible underlying causes.
  • Show dependencies rather than artificial precision.

04

Allow judgments to evolve

A revised assessment can be an expression of analytical discipline. What matters is the explanation: have the facts changed, has an assumption been contradicted or has information become more accessible? Distinguishing these reasons makes earlier decisions easier to understand. The quality of a research perspective therefore includes its ability to learn from new evidence and adjust existing explanations appropriately, while retaining a clear record of the reasoning behind those changes.

  • Identify changes in the underlying facts.
  • Review assumptions together with conclusions.
  • Do not silently discard arguments that remain valid.
